Flower City Arts Center welcomes 20 premier ceramic artists from across North America
October 10-13 | Preview Sale & Opening Reception: Friday, Oct. 11, 6–8:00 p.m.
(ROCHESTER, NY – August 27, 2019) Flower City Arts Center is proud to welcome, for the fifth year, 20 premier ceramic artists from 14 different states across America for a long weekend celebrating contemporary clay. The event includes an artist reception, pottery exhibitions and sale, demonstrations, workshops and talks by the visiting artists. Artists were selected to participate by curators and local ceramicists Richard Aerni, Matt Metz, Peter Pincus, and for the first time Shoko Teruyama. Each was selected for their mastery of craft, the unique properties of their work, and their appreciation of the community fostered by the event.
Thursday and Friday will feature workshops by artists Andrea Denniston, Tom Jaszczak, Kenyon Hansen, and Sean O’Connell.
Tickets range in price from $35 to $40 and should be purchased in advance online. Saturday and Sunday will feature free demonstrations and talks as well as the exhibition and sale of over 2,000 works of art. Both Saturday and Sunday are free and open to the public. If you are unable to attend, virtual shopping appointments are available. This appointment will help collectors and ceramics fans from anywhere in the nation to view works from their favorite artists. The virtual shopping appointments are Friday, October 11, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the purchase of a $20 opening night ticket required to get this early access to the exhibition. The Firehouse Gallery is located at 713 Monroe Ave., Rochester, NY. The sales and exhibition are free and open to the public. Preview Sale & Opening Reception tickets are $20 each. About the Flower City Arts Center
Flower City Arts Center has been operating since 1970. Flower City Arts Center is a darkroom, photography and digital arts facility, a ceramics workshop, and a printmaking and book arts center. The Center uses its resources to provide youth programs in schools, offers over 140 classes to the general public, and rents space to artists and others interested in the visual arts. Internships, facilities for advanced students, and resources for anyone interested in book arts, photography and ceramics are also available. Three galleries in our building serve as exhibit space for local, regional and national artists.
