Join Eric Kao, former Studio and Artist Programs Director at Baltimore Clayworks, on August 24 for an interesting presentation at Clayplace @ Standard.  After earning his M.F.A. in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, he was granted the opportunity to work in the renowned porcelain producing city of Jingdezhen, located in Jiangxi Province, China, eventually fulfilling the role of Director of The Pottery Workshop there.  Since 2009, Eric has been committing his creative energy to fostering growth within the six departments at the Pottery Workshop, a progressive company in an evolving city.  Furthermore, he has been active with exhibitions in China, Japan and the United States and has been selected as an invited artist by the Archie Bray Foundation (USA, 2011), a guest curator for University of Florida (USA, 2013) and a guest artist at the Shigaraki Ceramic Culture Park (Japan, 2014).

Originally from California, Eric is back in the US and on the road promoting ceramic art, craft, and culture.   His passion for culture, travel and ceramics and his ceramic expertise and cultural sensitivities help him to promote growth within his creative practices, both as an administrator and an artist.  While exploring opportunities for himself as a practicing artist, he is getting a chance to be a cultural tourist, investigating where creativity is being fostered.

Come meet him and hear his story.
